White Card in Brisbane

White Card in Brisbane

A White Card (formerly known as Blue Card) is a licensed issued by WorkSafe Queensland which allows workers to enter construction sites in Brisbane and the rest of Australia. When we say workers, it is not limited to labourers. HR personnel, managers etc. also require a White Card to enter construction sites, even if they don’t directly work on said construction site and only need to enter for inspections etc.

In order to be issued a White Card, workers must complete the Unit of Competency CPCCWHS1001 — prepare to work safely in the construction industry with a registered training organisation (RTO). The course takes 4–6 hours and covers a range of topics related to safety:

  • identify and verbally report two construction hazards and their associated risks
  • identify measures in reducing the risks
  • select personal protective equipment (PPE) to control the risk
  • verbally explain procedures for responding to emergencies
  • explain the types and purpose of the following fire safety equipment: fire blankets, fire extinguishers, including water, carbon dioxide, powder and foam, hose reels and mains
  • identify and verbally explain the meaning of safety signs and tags used on construction sites
  • explain the purpose of job safety analyses (JSAs), safe work method statements (SWMS) and safety data sheets (SDS)
  • explain the roles of health and safety personnel: first aid officers, work health and safety representatives, work health and safety committee members and supervisors.

White Cards are nationally recognised and can be used in any State or territories, no matter which State issued the card originally. As a result, a White Card obtained in Brisbane is valid on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne, in Sydney etc.

Personal protective equipment

You must demonstrate the correct fitting and wearing of the following common construction site personal protective equipment (PPE):

  • eye protection
  • hearing protection
  • hard hat
  • high visibility retro reflective vest

The training organisation you undertake the training with should provide the PPE unless mentioned otherwise. If you need to purchase the PPE, it will set you back by about $40.

Can I complete the White Card course online in Brisbane?

No, WorkSafe Queensland does not allow the course to be undertaken online. Be aware that there are a number of scam websites offering the course online. Those websites do no comply with WorkSafe Queensland, the Australian Skills Quality Authority and do not have a RTO number.

Where can I complete my training?

There are plenty of providers in Brisbane, including our own Brisbane training centre in Rocklea. Replacement White Cards

White Cards can be replaced by the RTO that issued the original card. If the organisation is no longer in business, it can be replaced by an organisation of your choosing.

Blue cards are still valid but can’t be replaced, and the current White Card course must be completed in order to be allowed on construction sites.
