Melbourne White Card
Completing a White Card in Melbourne can be challenging; there are just so many providers to choose from! In this article, we will share some tips that could be helpful with your search for a training provider delivering the White Card course in Melbourne.
Location - Melbourne CBD parking is expensive!
Probably not news to anyone, but hear me out! The course is as classes, and is often advertised between 4-6 hours. That alone can prove itself costly, but there are other factors that can stretch the time out even more. All it takes is a person or two struggling, and the whole class is delayed. RTOs have an obligation to help students (within reason).
If you are planning to catch public transportation, make sure that you plan your connections carefully for the very same reason as above. This is especially important if you do an afternoon/evening class, as public transport doesn't operate after certain hours.
Research the training provider
You want to complete your White Card course for one reason: to be allowed to work on construction sites. So really, what you want is to show up, complete the course and leave with your Statement of Attainment in hand (which can be used to gain access to construction sites while your physical White Card is being shipped by WorkSafe Victoria).
I would recommend that you google the following before committing to a training organisation: "[training organisation] reviews". Found a review website? Great, check out the overall score. Next, order by lowest to highest and try to find out why people left bad reviews. Any good provider will resolve these issues and have the review removed by the customer once the issue has been resolved. This can avoid putting yourself in a bad situation.

Read up on Melbourne specific White Card information
There are a few note worthy guides out there, but this is the most comprehensive Melbourne White Card guide. How do I know? I helped with the authoring of the guide.
While the White Card is nationally recognised, there are differences in how the States issue the cards etc. Reading up on an up-to-date, State-specific guide can help you avoid bad surprises. For example, in Victoria, White Cards used to be called Red Cards. In Queensland, they used to be called Blue Cards. And in NSW, they used to be called Green Card. Confusing? Just a little.
Cost of completing a White Card course in Melbourne
The course price is dependent on the organisation delivering the training. The average price in Melbourne according to MySkills.gov.au is $120. Keep in mind that you need to also factor in transportation and parking costs, as they can accumulate quite quickly as we've discussed above.
Queensland and New South Wales White Cards
As the cards are issued by each State individually, there are slight variances in how the training is conducted and how the cards are issued. As a result, we have written guides for Sydney and Brisbane: Sydney guide & Brisbane Guide
